A form of movement consisting of stretching and strengthening exercises concentrating on the centre-point of the body. The chief characteristic of Pilates is movement control and movement continuity, and all this being performed while breathing consciously. Pilates can be used to good effect in the case of back and spinal complaints, as well as in the case of rheumatic and joint conditions. As a result of the special exercises, the abdomen, buttocks and thighs can be transformed and made firm.
